My walling journey started in 2017 when my wife and I moved to a farm. Whilst my wife was running the farm I needed a career that I could fit round farm and family. I had a keen interest in stonework, having dabbled with it on an amateur basis, so I decided to take the plunge and become self-employed. I started some work while embarking on the Dry Stone Walling Association accreditation scheme. I worked my way through the qualifications up to Advanced Level 3 Craftsman. I’ve always tried to focus on quality rather than speed and whilst this didn't always help the bank balance It did mean that my job satisfaction was high as I really started to understand what goes into building these enduring examples of traditional craftmanship. I love the look of well built dry stone walls that have stood for a hundred years or more. But my real passion is for transferring the craft to the domestic setting where there are endless opportunities for creating walls and other beautiful structures which not only serve a practical purpose but also add aesthetically and environmentally to the garden, creating habitats for a wide range of wild life. Dry stone is environmentally friendly and sustainable, and the stone required is widely available.
